Today’s Good News/Bad News: Liquor and Sandwiches

GOOD NEWS: According to a tip we received, “one of the stores on the first floor of the Superfresh (2nd and Girard) building has a PLCB sign in the window. Apparently the liquor store is moving down a block, and it’s going to be a premium store! The new location is at least twice as big.” The Northeast Times first mentioned this as a rumor earlier this summer, but it seems like it is now actually going to happen. Premium stores offer expanded selections along with wine tastings and events.

BAD NEWS: We’ve been tipped off that Paesano’s (152 W Girard Ave), which has long been known as one of the best places for a sandwich in the city, may be downsizing their offerings. According to a review on Yelp! (we know, we can’t believe we’re acknowledging them either), the sandwiches have been getting smaller in the last few months, while the prices remain the same. There has also been some reports of customer service going downhill and the recent reviews show a disconcerting trend.

If this is really the case, we hope they can get back on track because a time where Paesano’s is bad is not a time we want to live in.

So… the new PLCB under the SuperFresh did not open as scheduled Tuesday. There are signs in the window saying that it will remain closed “until further notice,” but that the old store “remains open”. Except that the PLCB apparently isn’t shipping any more liquor to the old store, so the shelves are essentially bare.

    Any insights?
