Supper: Philadelphia’s acclaimed Supper restaurant (926 South Street, 215-592-8180) will kickoff National Picnic Month on Wednesday, July 1 from 5 pm until 8 pm, with a special Happy Hour, offering a dozen different modern interpretations of Deviled Eggs and special pricing on cans of Sly Fox beer. The deviled eggs will be offered individually for $1 apiece or diners can order all 12 varieties for $9. For $3 more, picnic-lovers can add a can of Sly Fox Beer, such as Pikeland Pils, Phoenix Pale Ale or Royal Weisse Ale. Throughout July, diners will be able to enjoy Supper’s daily changing selection of four deviled egg halves and a can of Sly Fox for $6.

Chef-owner Mitch Prensky’s unusual and classic interpretations of deviled eggs, a perfect picnic food, are at once innovative and familiar. In keeping with the restaurant’s farm-to-table menu, Supper’s deviled eggs are prepared with locally sourced ingredients and the chef’s own culinary flair.

The 12 tempting offerings will include: Sriracha Deviled Egg with pickled daikon, carrot and coriander; Pistou Deviled Egg with ratatouille; Horseradish Deviled Egg with steak and Roquefort; Deep-Fried Scotch Deviled Egg with country sausage; Wasabi Deviled Egg with uni and crispy nori; Saffron Deviled Egg with salt cod and roasted garlic; Black Truffle Deviled Egg; Chevre Deviled Egg with Spring Asparagus; Lobster Deviled Egg with dill crème fraiche; “Bacon and Egg” with braised bacon and cheddar; Smoked Chile Deviled Egg with corn-red onion salsa; Vadouvan Spiced Deviled Egg with roasted cauliflower and mint.

Zinc Wine Bar and Bistro: The city’s most authentic French wine bar and bistro, Zinc (246 South 11th Street, 215-351-9901), invites revelers to join them to celebrate Bastille Day early on Saturday, July 11, for a fun, flavorful Picnic Menu of French favorites. For just $15 per person, diners will enjoy a moveable feast of summery treats complemented by $5 wines by the glass. These special prices will be available all day and evening, from noon until 10 p.m.

“Bastille Day is an occasion to celebrate French food and culture,” says chef-owner Olivier Desaintmartin, whose French bistro recalls those found in the hip Le Marais neighborhood of Paris. “These picnic-friendly foods are a perfect light meal and a festive way to join in the fun on a holiday that is really just a wonderful excuse to enjoy some good, classic French favorites.”

Menu items include: Brie en Croute, baked crusted Brie cheese; Saucisson Beurre, French baguette sandwiches of sopresatta; Cold Roast Beef; and Cherry Clafoutis. This special menu will be offered throughout Zinc’s intimate dining room, at the authentic Parisian zinc bar and outside at their outdoor café, with its authentic wine barrels from Pennsylvania’s Chaddsford Winery.

Bicycle Tour With The Great Philly Cheesesteak Book author Carolyn Wyman: On Saturday, July 11, Carolyn will lead active cheesesteak fans on a leisurely 12-mile, 9,000-calorie bicycle tour to eight great Center City and South Philly steak stands featured in her new book (deluge date July 18). The carbo- and protein-loading ride starts at Sonny’s Steaks, 228 Market St., promptly at noon and will end at Pat’s and Geno’s at about 6 p.m. Carolyn will offer remarks about the stands from her book and introduce stand owners. The ride is free and books and $2 bites of sandwiches will be available for purchase.

Slide Show and Book Signing With The Great Philly Cheesesteak Book author Carolyn Wyman: Cheesesteak fans of the more sedentary kind will be able to visit some of the same cheesesteak stands as in Carolyn’s earlier Cheesesteak Bike Tour via a slide talk Wyman will be presenting at the Central Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, 1901 Vine St., Philadelphia, Wednesday, July 22 at 7:30 p.m. A book signing will follow her 50-minute lecture. Admission is free and reservations are not necessary.

University City Dining Days: Twenty-one of University City’s most popular dining destinations – including newcomers Desi Village, Distrito, Gold Standard Café and Mary Oaks - are preparing for the annual summer edition of University City Dining Days. Considering the hightened success of the promotion, Philadelphia foodies are being encouraged to make their reservations early as participating restaurants will once again be offering excellent dining deals from Thursday, July 23 – Thursday, July 30.

The participating restaurants will offer a pre-fixe three-course dinner special for $15, $25 or $30. The “3 courses, 3 prices” concept works to accommodate University City’s diverse culinary options and “left of center” reputation. Prices are for dinner only and do not include tax, gratuity or alcohol, and reservations are recommended and should be made directly through the participating restaurant. Hendricks Farms and Dairy: Join Fair Food on a tour of Hendricks Farms and Dairy, and learn about their production of raw milk, meats, and award-winning cheeses. Enjoy a tour of the family’s beautiful farm and cheese houses. You will learn about raising the grass-fed Ayrshire and Angus cattle that produce their products, the use of draft horses to power the farm, and the crafting of their cheeses. The day will conclude with a picnic lunch featuring locally-produced food, including Hendricks’ delicious cheeses.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $12 for children 6-13, and free for children under 6. FMNP (WIC or seniors) receive a 50% discount. Carpools can be arranged.
