Philly fellow Daniel McLaughlin (pictured) is taking on 12 mainstream diets this year, one for each month. The diets range from played out (Atkins, The Zone) to practical (Minimum Wage) to WTF? (Blood Type Diet). He chronicles his travails on his pet project’s site, The Thirteenth Diet. McLaughlin’s goal is to come up with a [...]
Food Writers as the Free Loaders of the Journalism World?
Aired July 1st, 2010 on Food Bloggers.1 CommentIs it important to know if a food writer is paying for that “exquisite meal” he’s writing about? It’s not quite as simple as fashion blogging, where bloggers can append “gifted” in parentheses to disclose that they were sent the piece for free (because they’re required to). So the $1,000,000 question:Â Food writing: is it all [...]
You can blame your separation anxiety from This Is Why You’re Fat on one of the site’s co-creators, Richard Blakeley (pictured). He recently plead guilty to a harrassment charge against the site’s other creator and his then girlfriend Jessica Amason. Guess that means no TV deal…or at least not the kind that we were expecting. [...]
This is Why You’re Fat, touted as “hardcore, wet and sloppy, extreme, take-no-prisoners, get down and dirty food porn” (sorry, just couldn’t write anything more evocative than that) by The Frisky, has suddenly gone missing. Apparently, it’s been removed by its owner. But we were only just starting to understand why we were fat… All [...]
One Man’s Voyage Into The Seedy World Of Eating Every Pork Dish You Possibly Can
Aired January 20th, 2010 on Animal Rights and Food Bloggers.2 CommentsUp until recently, Philadelphia writer/artist/emcee/producer/gentleman/scholar Abdullah Saeed did not partake in the savory delights of the pig. Eventually, his curiosity started to pique as his determination started to waver and he decided to chronicle his [...]

And then you gave us Unbreaded, the project of Twitter fanatic Kessler (and yes we mean fanatic, just check out his stats). Unbreaded is a blog that “is passionate about exploring the craft of [...]
And Now, Here’s What We Have To Add Regarding The Foobooz Post About The Union Trust Opening Party
Aired February 10th, 2009 on Food Bloggers, Openings and Phoodies.1 Comment1. This is the most spot-on imitation of the Phoodie voice we’ve yet seen. Bravo! 2. The whole party was a line! Crazy! 3. John DeBella complimented Sweeney on his glasses. If only he’d seen the pubestache Sweeney had for a while in the fall. It was like he was making a gay Groucho mask! [...]
Turbaconucken And Corn Dog Pizza, I Sing Of Thee
Aired February 10th, 2009 on Food Bloggers, Food Porn, Junk Food and Phoodies.0 CommentsIn the realm of food porn, the humble and quick Tumblr blog might be the hottest thing to come along since Jamie Oliver (confidential to Jamie: we still love you, call us, NSA). Tumblr blogs are cheap (free), tend to lend themselves to single-photo posting and move fast. Best food Tumblr blog we’ve seen? This [...]

Aired January 14th, 2009 on Food Bloggers.0 CommentsYes, they’re even later than our own Phoodie Awards, but do drop by Drawing For Food’s Best Of ’08 post, not just for the spot-on recommends, but also Hawk Krall‘s site-specific illustrations (as shown above).
