Today’s Panini of the Day is the “West Oak Lane,” made with ham, havarti, russian dressing, avocado + tomato on baguette. We’re not usually fans of ham sandwiches but this definitely hit the spot in our empty tummies today. Oh, dear lord, and the bread! Buttery and crunchy, toasted perfectly, it’s honestly like eating a cookie. Along with the PoD they also have their SoD, Soup of the day. Sometimes we just go for these, as they are equally inventive. Today’s soup is Lemon Mint Split Pea which pairs well with the sandwich since lots of Split Pea Soup is made with ham anyway. This however, is a heavenly vegetarian variation. The lemon and mint seemed somehow perfectly fitting for such a brisk sunny day.

Lunch Saver: Chickie’s Sampler

Lunch

Sandwiches

Unfortunately, the Chickie’s Sampler does not exist, but it should! Regardless, that’s the beauty of going to Chickie’s with 3 people. We went over there the other day and tried a couple ones we hadn’t yet, and we have some suggestions for you. The Tuna Special is one of their “Best of Philly” Sandwhiches, with Italy brand tuna packed in olive oil, with sharp provolone, roasted peppers, lettuce, tomato & onion. So much better than any ol’ tuna sandwhich we’ve ever had. That olive oil soaked tuna must be the ticket.

We also tried their Oyster Po’ Boy for the first time. Usually, we’re a bit nervous about oysters on weekdays, but no worries here! Then, for the vegetarian, there’s the Fried Tomato Special, which is my new favorite! It’s like a BLT, with perfectly fried (and ripe!) tomatoes, bacon (nixed for the vegetarian), roasted peppers and lettuce with any cheese you want. You can also add turkey, amazingly only for $1.49.

Why we don’t ride on down here for lunch more often, we have no idea. Next time we’re bringing 10 people, and we’re all sharing! Oh and before we forget… don’t bother getting the small size. The large is only a dollar more, and comes with that fantastic Sarcone Seeded Roll you don’t want to miss out on.

DiNic’s Moved To Larger Space In Reading Terminal, Is Still Delicious

Openings

Sandwiches
<guid

Premium stores offer expanded selections along with wine tastings and events.

BAD NEWS: We’ve been tipped off that Paesano’s (152 W Girard Ave), which has long been known as one of the best places for a sandwich in the city, may be downsizing their offerings. According to a review on Yelp! (we know, we can’t believe we’re acknowledging them either), the sandwiches have been getting smaller in the last few months, while the prices remain the same. There has also been some reports of customer service going downhill and the recent reviews show a disconcerting trend.<br
